THE METHOD OF EVA RUCHPAUL

“The architecture of a yoga class has as an objective the fundamental destination of the yogic posture, which is to modify by a physiological action the rhythm and the quality of the mental activity” Eva Ruchpaul

In the technique developed in the late 60’s by Eva Ruchpaul, we focus on a progressive study of the asana practice. The conscious breathing acts as a transformative impulse.

The posture, the asana, is not defined as a pre-condition or as a goal, but instead is respected as an exercise of awareness. A space for mental stability and self-realization.

The “bien tempéré” principle is that the postures are not repeated during a yoga class. Instead they become unique experiences of stability. This reflects the wish to guide attention toward a state of immobility. Creating a state where the body is meditating beyond the limitations of time and form.

The ancient yogic tradition defines the asana as “stable” and “comfortable”. Seen as an exercise of serenity, the asana creates an internal space of silence, yet without solitude. The posture is a compass that during a yoga class guides our attention rather to refine our ability to observe, to discover and to articulate movement.

Conscious breathing is an essential element in this process. Our breath is the fabric that is weaving a yoga class. The more fluid our breathing is the more we can experience completeness and peacefulness.

In conclusion with such state of equanimity we learn how to perceive another notion of effort. The principle of making no effort. As a consequence to allow the posture to reveal its maximum of healing effect. To salute a state where physical tension is transformed into a state of harmonious well-being.

THE PRACTICE

A>In the technique of hatha-yoga “bien tempéré”, ‎we welcome the student to discover his/her body in a purely personal and confidential way.

We learn how to articulate movement based on simplicity, elegance and self-respect. This teaches us to support a generous range of mobility. Open to honour our body’s intelligence. http://www.anastasiayoga.com//2017/03/31/from-the-terrace-of-my-soul/

B>During the yoga class the practitioner to discover his/her actual physical needs. He learns how to move beyond any expectations about an ideal performance. Most of all to expand towards an honest and balanced asana practice.

What is essential is to estimate who we are and how we feel after a yoga session.

C>A yoga class finishes with the practice of breathing exercises. Especially to reanimate the mind while detoxifying the body. Hence the profound effects of the postures can be absorbed by our psychosomatic instrument.

Finally the student finishes the yoga class with a sense of overall vitality and a harmonious feeling of well being. Over time the yoga practitioner develops a trust in his/her profound nature. Most of all is able to effectively incorporate the benefits of the yoga practice in the demands of daily life.

FOR WHOM

People of all ages and abilities, either with or without previous yoga experience are welcome to join a yoga class. A yoga class adapts to fit the conditions of the moment. In addition to the actual progress of the practitioner. Ready to enjoy how far the body can perform on each day.

As a teacher of the technique Ruchpaul, I respect the physical abilities of each student and personalize the practice within a yoga class. Yet I can always propose a variety of postures that even people with limited physical condition or with an injury can practice safely.

In a yoga class we give priority to the quality of attention. Also to the faithfulness to perceptions that arise. Rather than on achieving advanced physical postures. Each student engages his/her conscious presence to articulate movement. As a result he enjoys a safe, fluid and honest practice.

The student is never overwhelmed with an overload of verbal details and hands-on manipulations. Instead the teacher observes and assists the practice of each practitioner in silence. Most of all progress in yoga practice needs time to offer its effects.
